Now that 2016 is here, one thing seems certain. There are going to be changes in the background screening industry. But that could be said for every year, or so it seems. What’s this year’s hot topic? It appears to be expanding on the Ban-The-Box idea.
Currently, there’s a big push by politicians to expand employment opportunities for ex-convicts. In New York City, for example, they recently banned the box on job applications and passed a new law where background checks checks can not be ran until later in the hiring process. Their hope is that this will allow ex-convicts to display their credentials prior to revealing their criminal history. It’ll be interesting to see if other states follow suit this year.
Either way, there’s still a great need for background checks in the pre-employment environment.
